-Rice Mandala
Performance 2024 Rice, linen, stone, metronome, steel chain
Inspired by Tibetan Buddhism’s sand mandala, I perform a time ritual using rice, a metronome, and stones. On the linen, “the Day in front” and “the Day behind” are written on opposite sides. The area in between represents the present moment, termed the “at-present zone.”
During the performance, the practitioner swings a funnel, causing the rice to fall from varying angles. Through this motion, coupled with the body’s movement, the ritual contemplates our existence in the present moment.
